UM Degree Orientation; Haluansiswa revealed! Hihii

I'm not supposed to tell this part but I still do it, in the hope this will ease your 'orientasi tensi' a little. I know, you're scared of not knowing a single thing about what you're facing. Everyone deserves a little shiny hope anyways ;)

Here is the story or more like the truth about Haluansiswa. The Pembantu Mahasiswas appeared to be really mean and fierce after our parents got back home. Really. (But it's just an act, they're actually really really nice.) The whole week (Sunday til Friday) is packed with activities. From 5am til 2am the next day. I am serious. You will only get maybe at least 2 hours of sleep for that 5 days. My advice is; please listen to whatever the PMs say and do whatever they ask you to if you do not want a hard and harsh week. They will be nice to you if you obey them, and this is true. Don't worry, they won't ask you to do stupid stuffs and they won't bully you. If you're sick, please let them know. No matter how fierce they are, just please let them know.

The activities include; Pagi Senamrobik, a trip to the field, hall and department every freaking day, cheers practice!

Sunday
  • I think it started on a Sunday (as my Surat Tawaran written as 4/7/2010). Anyhow, first day after settling and sorting your stuffs out in the room, the activities started immediately. But, it wasn't as heavy as the rest of the days.
  • There will be a major ice breaking session through the division of students into smaller groups called 'Sel' (e.g: Sel, Sel 2, Sel 3, etc.). There will be about 12-15 people in a sel, and there's 12 sel all together in a college. A Ketua Sel will be elected, and each sel will receive 2 Pembantu Mahasiswa (PM).
  • Basically, the first day, your major activity will be the long (ever so boring) explainations on the tentatives, activities and other few registration-related stuffs. Short, light cheers will be taught to you too *yawns*
Monday
  • Up at around 5 am, to the college surau for Solat Subuh berjemaah. If you want to get a place in the surau, come down early or else.. you gotta pray outside the surau.
  • Oh yes, you will be given only 30 minutes break to do your prayers, to eat and bath. So please do not be late or else you will be punished. And yes, please wear another layer of tshirt underneath your college tshirt because you will be using the same 2 t-shirts everyday and there is no time at all to wash it.
  • After Solat Subuh, you will then have to attend your very first Pagi Senamrobik at the college futsal court! (This senamrobik is a practice for the major senamrobik which will be held on Friday together with all 12 colleges at Padang Varsiti). It's a mixture of Poco-Poco and ethnic dances with a touch of '1 Malaysia' theme. Super cute and fun (oh well, for me it is).
  • More cheers and taklimat will be held. Boring. (Btw, please memorize those cheers and the steps as you might (because there's a rumor saying starting from the new batch, there will be no more Cheers?) have a Huge Cheer Competition between all the colleges, and 7th Residential College is always the best at it!)

Tuesday
  • Solat Subuh, Pagi Senamrobik, Cheers Practice, More Taklimat
  • This is the day that you need a lot of energy as you will start going to the University Main Hall; Dewan Tunku Canselor (DTC) and also Padang Varsiti. Yes, you will have to walk! It's pretty far and hot and tiring, but trust me folks, you will eventually get used to it :p
  • They will also choose a few people to represent college in sports such as football, volleyball, tarik tali and such. (I advice that you join any of these because you will get to escape a lot of boring activities, ehehehe)

Wednesday
  • Solat Subuh, Pagi Senamrobik, Cheers Practice, More Taklimat.
  • This may be the day when you start barking cheers (called sub cheers) to 4th Residential College. Yes, they are our main enemy compared to other colleges. It's pretty fun tho hehe.
  • More walking to DTC and Padang Varsiti.
  • Sports Practices for those who joins Sports.
  • Also, practices for this Go Green Competition among all the colleges.
  • Yes, you will get your first visit to your own faculty and department! :D

Thursday
  • Solat Subuh, Pagi Senamrobik, Cheers Practice, More Taklimat.
  • Pendaftaran Kursus at your own department! And more Faculty and Department Talks.
  • More walking to DTC and Padang Varsiti.
  • Sports Tournament between the colleges starts today.

Friday
  • Solat Subuh and yes, your major Pagi Senamrobik with all the other 12 colleges at Padang Varsiti! Super fun hihiii.
  • Sports Tournament Finals! (I joined the Volleyball Team and we won 1st! :D)
  • Major Go Green Cheers and Presentations Competition among colleges in Padang Varsiti.
  • Major Cheer Competition in between the colleges at night in DTC. This one will be so so so super duper so so so much fun I swear! There will be performances and such too ;)
  • ENDS!!

Basically, all Haluansiswa Orientation activities end on Friday Night itself, so whoever that wants to go home, can already go back by then. But depends on the college tho because 4th College, they had to go for some hiking the next day. But 7th, being as cool as ever released their students that Friday Night itself :D
(To those juniors entering 7th Residential College, the room may not be comfortable, but the people; they are all wonderful at hearts. And you're gonna get such sweethearts as your Pembantu Mahasiswa such as my roomie and close college mates hihii)

"Lu sama lu,
Gua sama gua,
Jangan lu dengki sama itu Zaba."
-7th Cheers

These are the friends that I made during my Haluansiswa days; worth keeping, such sweethearts and will forever love em :* Wawa, Pija, Azi & Sab ♥

P/S: A little of advice; try to enjoy as much as you could because based on my own experience, to me, personally, I had so much fun. I made a lot of new friends that I would say, worth keeping til now. The experience I had was golden although at times, it felt like total crap. Yes, I got punished, mocked and so, but you know what, divert those into something bigger and better. Seek happiness in every little thing around you. If you keep a positive mind and see everything in a brighter way, everything will turn out lovely. Trust me on this. Stop complaining, and start having fun :)

Good Luck and Have Fun! :D

Loves, xx
