Your first day in UM 7th Residential College 101 ;)

7th Residential College 'Kad Makan' :D (which I hardly use, baaaahh)

I do not know about you. But if I found this kind of post a year back, I will definitely feel so relieved and give the writer sloppy thankyou kisses for giving me a picture of how a registration day looks like in UM. Hihii ;) *but this only applies to those who got into 7th Residential College tho*

Here it goes;
I attended the orientation for 2010/2011 batch, got into 7th Residential College (Kolej Kediaman Za'ba). Honestly, I do not know a single thing about UM, it's orientation, or flow, or whatsoever related to it when I first stepped into it. Yes, I was that oblivious. I arrived at UM for the Pendaftaran Masuk Kolej on 4th July 2010 with my parents around 11am and got ourselves caught in jam inside the campus itself! So, my dad had to park really far, namely at the library car park, and my mom decided to just walk up until 7th College with me (no, we didn't carry my bags.) just to check whether there's space for cars to go in and out around a nearer area because the guard wouldn't let us drive up (apparently sangat sesak!). HONESTLY, IT WASN'T! My dad had to screamed at the guard and he just drove up, and dropped off my stuffs infront of the college.
Lesson #1: Come early! You can drive up until 7th Residential College (it is after Jabatan Geologi, Fakulti Bahasa dan Linguistik & 3rd College) to drop off your luggages and stuffs. No harm. Please don't be scared of the guard or you will end up carrying your heavy stuffs all the way from the library area til college!

There will be a booth at the college gate and there will be a few PMs (Pembantu Mahasiswa; they are the ones incharged to help all newbies in the college) sitting holding papers, pens and other documents. Don't be scared of them! They're nice and please meet them first as they will guide you onto the next steps to check in to your college. You will have to tick an attendance list there and they will pass you a file full of papers (I can't remember what papers tho.. sorry!) and then, you will be given a paper (called a checklist) on what to do next.
Lesson #2: Don't rush in! Stop by the first booth and let the PMs guide you onto the next steps.

Next step would be your college registration! :) You know those documents that you have to fill in before entering UM? (That documents posted by UM; including the offer letter) Yeap, those stuffs! Get your X-Rays and such ready as you will have to pass them to the PMs in another booth in the college compound. After passing them, they will release you into the college hall to check in to your room. Forehand note; you cannot bring your parents into the hall - they have to wait outside the hall. There will be a counter with PMs sorting out the room keys. All you have to do is give them a document (Your PM will tell you which document) and then, they will give your new room keys! Yaaay! Then, you have to proceed to the upstairs as the PMs there will give you the college Goodies Bag! (Really they are! - it contains of the college t-shirts, pen, files, and etc. It's like complimentary gifts from the college.) After thaaaaat; they will show you the way to your room! Selepas itu, baru lah anda boleh turun dan panggil mak ayah, adik, nenek, atok dan segala bagai to pick up your bags and bring em up to your new room :)
Lesson #3: Oh well, just follow whatever I just wrote. Yeah :p

You will have to sort everything out by around 2pm! And then, your parents and family members have to go back. Yes. Because, now is the time where your HALUANSISWA (orientation) starts! Mwahahahahaha. Please be friends with your room mates, it's essential, and I'm not even joking. Hehe. You will be given lunch (which you have to go pick em up downstairs. In my case, I went with my new room mates because I don't wanna get lost hahaha), eat them fast and then get into your college t-shirt given earlier! Around 2pm, you will have to go gather in the hall for some 'interesting' activities by the PMs!
Lesson #4: Make friends with your new room mates. It really helps! ;)

So;
  1. Keep calm and drop off your stuffs nearby your college.
  2. Stop by at the very first booth in front of the college gate, to check whether it's the right college. You will also be given a few guidelines from there.
  3. Proceed to the second booth in the college compound to hand in your medical check-up results and also x-ray.
  4. Make your way into the college hall to pick up your new room keys.
  5. Then, go upstairs to pick up a few other merchandises by the college.
  6. Later after that, you can start finding for your new room. Andddd, you can start sorting out all your stuffs, bags, luggage, whatever they are ;)
  7. Go down and pick up your free food from the food booth. Eat em fast, perform your prayer in your room, then change into the college t-shirt that you received during Step #5.
  8. Adios Mama, Papa, Daddy, Mommy, Ibu, Ayah, Nenek, Atok, Adik, Kak Long, Abang Ngah and whoever because your degree orientation called Haluansiswa starts here.
  9. Perk up, gear up, get ready. Make your way to the college hall to start your first week in UM. Good Luck! You may now proceed to reading my next post! :D

All clear? Proceed to the next post :)

Loves, xx
